The week of January 10th marks the final week for the American Red Cross, Southeastern Michigan Chapter’s (SEM) Comfort Days donation campaign. The Chapter will mark its final push for public support of this campaign by hosting an event this Saturday, January 9th at its Comfort Days Headquarters in Birmingham.

Beginning at noon, the Red Cross will open the doors for its Comfort Days Headquarters, located at 141 W. Maple in downtown Birmingham, offering several items and information to those who make financial or in-kind contributions as part of this final push to support this most worthy cause. 106.7 FM the Beat of Detroit will also be on hand to offer additional freebies and prizes to those who attend to support the American Red Cross.

In response to an increased need in its Emergency Services, the SEM launched Comfort Days in late November 2008 to secure donations to assist families who are victims of everyday disasters as well as providing much-needed comfort kits to our military personnel during deployment and their return home.

As part of its final push for the Comfort Days campaign, the Chapter is asking for monetary donations and in-kind donations in the form of travel-sized goods for comfort kits (please see the list below).

• Toothbrush • Lotion
• Soap • Shampoo
• Shaving Cream • Disposable Razor
• Tissue • White Socks

Itemized “gift” donation packages:
• $5.00—Provides for one Comfort Kit
• $20.00—Provides Comfort kits for a family of four
• $50.00—Provides Comfort kits and a meal for a family of four
• $100.00—Provides Comfort Kits and a one-night hotel stay for a family of four
• $200.00—Provides groceries, Comfort Kits and a one-night stay for a family of four
• $500.00—Average gift of financial assistance given to a family after a home fire to begin rebuilding their lives

A contribution to Comfort Days is a tax-deductible contribution to the overall mission of the American Red Cross. On the rare occasion when donations exceed the need in a particular area, we will use your contribution to help others where the need is greatest.
