What is Comfort Days?

Comfort Days is a campaign to support the Southeastern Michigan Chapter’s Emergency Services efforts which includes Disaster Services and Military Services. This program will help the Chapter provide comfort and assistance to victims of home/apartment fires as well as military personnel.

How long does it last?

November 24, 2009 -January 16, 2010

How can I participate?
Individuals and organizations can participate in two ways:

1. Host a Comfort Kit drive at your organization/business by donating comfort kit items to the Southeastern Michigan Chapter. Items for comfort kits include trial or travel-sized toiletries, which are given to victims of disaster or military personnel. A complete list of these items include:

Comfort Kit Items (Trial or Travel Sized)

  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Lotion
  • Washcloth
  • Tissue
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • White Socks
  • Deodorant
  • Razor
  • Shaving Cream

2. Collect or make a direct financial donation to support the outreach of the Chapter’s Emergency Services. In addition to comfort kits, Emergency Services also provides immediate food, shelter, clothing and financial assistance to those who are victims of disaster.

A contribution to Comfort Days is a tax-deductible contribution to the overall mission of the American Red Cross. On the rare occasion when donations exceed the need in a particular area, we will use your contribution to help others where the need is greatest.

What type of organizations are eligible to participate?

  • Individuals and organizations across Southeast Michigan are encouraged to participate.

How do I register my organization?

How will my participation benefit the American Red Cross?

  • Your donation of comfort kit items will provide comfort kits to victims of home fires as well as members of the military.
  • Any financial donation will help to provide immediate support in the form of food, shelter and financial assistance to those who have lost everything due to disaster.

When and where will the items be collected?

Items will be collected in two ways

  • Items will be collected through comfort kit drives at your place of business or organization. By clicking here and signing up to participate in the program, you will receive a kit that will give you all the materials you need to host a Comfort Days campaign.
  • If you are an individual who would like to collect items, you can drop them off to the American Red Cross, Southeastern Michigan Chapter by calling 313-833-2649 to schedule a drop-off time. You can also drop them off at our Birmingham Holiday Giving Store location at 141. W. Maple.

When and where will the items be picked up as part of the Comfort Days campaign?

  • Items collected by organizations and businesses will be collected during the period of January 18-22, 2010. A Red Cross representative will contact organizations to set up your pick-up time during that week.
  • If you are an individual who would like to donate items, you can schedule a drop-off time for your donation as by calling 313-833-2649.

How can family and friends participate?
Your friends and family can participate by donating comfort kits items, organizing a Comfort Days campaign at their school, business or organization, or giving a financial donation to the Southeastern Michigan Chapter.
